Typography

To leave some brand familiarity, we kept the font families the same.

Colour

We also kept the same colour overall colour scheme.

Images

We had to create a lot of images from scratch as the original ones were of inconsistent sizes and looks.

Web Solutions

We had to rebuild the entire site from the ground up, including recreating more than 500 products in the store.

Identity, Packaging & Familiarity

We rebuilt the website from the ground up using a ThemeForest premium theme. The ground-up rebuild included a fresh install of WordPress and all plugins, recreating 500+ products and pages, recreating orders and customer accounts, fixing all wrong-sized images and dead links, and optimizing the site speed.

  • Responsive and Quick to Load
  • Remained Familiar to Existing Customers
  • Cleaned Up Database Bloat
  • Decrease File Size, Freeing Up Server Space
  • Assisted WordPress Hosting and Ongoing Maintenance

Progressive Growth is a retailer of garden and hydroponics supplies with physical retail locations across Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Their online presence serves customers across Canada and the United States.

Progressive Growth hired Polaris (formally Skookum Monkey) to rebuild their website from the ground up using a ThemeForest premium theme: BeTheme with the Biker template. The ground-up rebuild included a fresh install of WordPress and all plugins, recreating 500+ products and pages, recreating orders and customer accounts, fixing all wrong-sized images and dead links, and optimizing the site speed.

Prior to the new site, Progressive Growth was using a theme with deprecated code and had images as a background on all pages and elements. This was causing long load times. Additionally, the databases were old and over 5 GB in size, which also contributed to the load times.

Progressive Growth needed a site that not only had clean code and a fresh database, but the theme also had to be customized to use elements from the old website so that their loyal customers wouldn’t feel as if they were visiting the wrong website after the launch. We accomplished this by using the same colour scheme as the old site, plus using a section of the old website’s background image for headers on pages and as a background for certain sections on the homepage. The BeTheme Biker template was only used as a jumping point for the colour palette and shop functionality. The homepage and inside pages were completely customized, along with some customization of the shop tabbed navigation.

After the rebuild, not only did the site load time decrease significantly, but we brought the database down to 63 MB (previously 5 GB) and site storage down to 1 GB (previously 50 GB).
